"Prolonged Emergency Due to Unilateral Increase"
"Will Adjust Overall Workload"
Professors at Ulsan University College of Medicine have announced their intention to adjust their workload, stating that "prolonged emergency medical care is expected."
On the 20th, the Emergency Response Committee (hereinafter referred to as the ERC) of the Ulsan University College of Medicine Professors' Council, which includes training hospitals such as Seoul Asan Medical Center, Ulsan University Hospital, and Gangneung Asan Hospital, issued a press release after a general meeting held at the Ulsan University College of Medicine auditorium in Songpa-gu, Seoul, stating this position.
The ERC stated, "The submitted resignation letters are being processed through background checks by the courts, prosecutors' offices, and police," and added, "Medical care is being adjusted according to each individual's desired resignation date." They also said, "Due to the government's unilateral increase in medical school admissions, a prolonged emergency medical care system is expected until next year," and "We have decided to continue adjusting the overall workload by guaranteeing days off after on-call duty for professors, adjusting the number of outpatient visits, and transferring mild patients to other institutions to focus on treating severe patients."
There are three training hospitals affiliated with Ulsan University College of Medicine. A total of 767 professors are employed: 528 at Seoul Asan Medical Center, 151 at Ulsan University Hospital, and 88 at Gangneung Asan Hospital.
