On the 19th (local time), at Valhalla Golf Club (par 71, 7,609 yards) in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, the 106th PGA Championship, the second major tournament of the year (total prize money $18.5 million), concluded with Shofley winning by one stroke (21-under 263). He completed a 'wire-to-wire' victory, never relinquishing the first place throughout the tournament. This marked his 8th career win and his first major championship title, earning a winner's prize of $3.33 million (approximately 4.5 billion KRW).
Shofley set the record for the most under-par score in the history of the men's golf four major championships. The previous record was 20-under par, held by Jason Day (Australia) at the 2015 PGA Championship, Henrik Stenson (Sweden) at the 2016 Open Championship, Dustin Johnson (USA) at the 2020 Masters, and Cameron Smith (Australia) at the 2022 Open Championship. The final 18th hole (par 5) was spectacular. He executed a precise approach shot near the green followed by a 1.89m birdie putt, sealing a thrilling victory.
Shofley is a player with excellent skills in driving, irons, and putting. In this tournament, he recorded an average drive distance of 310.10 yards (15th), fairway hit rate of 73.21% (tied 16th), and greens in regulation rate of 83.33% (1st). His wedge shots and putting were especially impressive. He used Callaway Jaws Raw (52 degrees) and Titleist Vokey Design SM10 (56 degrees), as well as Vokey Design Wedge Works Proto (60 degrees), showcasing top-tier short game ability. His bunker shots were outstanding, with a bunker save rate of 100% (tied 1st).
His clutch putting ability was also remarkable. Had he failed to make the birdie on the last hole, he would have faced a playoff against 'The Hulk' Bryson DeChambeau (USA). Calmly sinking the birdie, he avoided an extended playoff. Shofley used an Odyssey Toulon Design Las Vegas Prototype 7CH putter to become a major champion. His putts per green in regulation for this tournament were 1.63 (6th).
