Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi died in an unexpected helicopter crash, and Israel immediately stated that it was not involved.
An Israeli official who requested anonymity told foreign media on the 20th (local time) that Israel was not involved in the helicopter crash that led to President Raisi's death, emphasizing, "It was not us."
While various countries have expressed condolences and regret over the accident, Israeli leadership and government, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have yet to make an official statement.
President Raisi and his entourage were attending the inauguration ceremony of the Kiz Galasi Dam in East Azerbaijan Province in northwestern Iran the previous day. On their return to Tabriz by helicopter amid bad weather, the helicopter crashed and went missing.
Iranian authorities conducted an overnight search operation, confirmed the accident site, and recovered the bodies on the 20th.
