Since its establishment in 1946, Kyungnam University, which has led the diversification of regional higher education as a "cradle for nurturing future talents," celebrated its 78th anniversary with a grand ceremony held in the main building's 4th-floor conference hall on the 20th.
Over the past several decades, Kyungnam University has produced 150,000 outstanding talents through continuous educational innovation. This year, the university is preparing for a new leap as a "prestigious local private university" that will drive the joint growth of the university and the region by challenging for the official designation in the "Glocal University 30 Project" through the "Changwon National Industrial Complex Digital Transformation."
On this day, President Park Jaekyu stated, "Kyungnam University has recently attracted innovative institutions that will be responsible for the future of Gyeongnam, such as the Global Coding Campus, Super-scale Manufacturing AI Global Joint Research Center, and Gyeongnam Global Game Center, to the university in succession." He added, "Furthermore, the preliminary designation for the Ministry of Education's 'Glocal University 30 Project' is the result of our bold and daring innovations and the strength of Hanma people."
He continued, "I would like to express my gratitude to all faculty and staff, 150,000 alumni, students, and parents who have consistently dedicated themselves to the university's social responsibilities and development in this rapidly changing era. I ask for your continued generous support and encouragement as we take on new challenges toward our centennial anniversary."
The ceremony was attended by President Park Jaekyu of Kyungnam University, long-serving faculty and staff, and others. The event proceeded with awards for 30, 20, and 10 years of service, followed by the Hanma Achievement Award and Special Achievement Award presentations.
A total of 45 people received long-service awards. For 30 years of service, six people including Professor Jeon Youngrok of the Department of Mechanical Engineering were honored. For 20 years of service, 20 people including Professor Kim Youngsang of the Department of English were recognized. For 10 years of service, 19 people including Professor Kim Gidae of the Department of Food and Nutrition received awards.
