Gwangju Bukbu Fire Station announced on the 20th that the Korea 119 Youth Corps Bukbu Branch will be organized into four units this year and will hold inauguration ceremonies to begin their activities.
According to the fire department, on the 17th, inauguration ceremonies including the awarding of membership cards and the oath-taking by unit representatives were held at Munheung Elementary School and Mudeung Elementary School. They also conducted fire safety education such as future firefighter career and job experience activities, fire evacuation procedures, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
The "Korea 119 Youth Corps" was founded in 1963 and is an organization established to cultivate awareness and habits of safety from an early age, deliver correct knowledge about fire safety, and nurture members into adults who lead a culture of safety.
This year, the Bukbu Fire Station Korea 119 Youth Corps consists of four units with 124 members (118 youth members and 6 supervising teachers) from Munheung Elementary School, Mudeung Elementary School, Hyodong Elementary School, and Gwangju Aeyukwon. The inauguration ceremonies will be held individually at each school.
Song Seong-hoon, Chief of Bukbu Fire Station, stated, "We hope that the Korea 119 Youth Corps will grow into strong safety leaders of the future generation by fostering proper safety awareness through various fire safety cultural activities throughout the year."
