Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra to Hold 12 'Museum Concerts' This Year
The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) announced on the 20th that it will hold a 'Museum Concert' starting from the 21st, allowing audiences to enjoy classical performances at museums and art galleries.
The Museum Concert is a chamber music performance presented by SPO members in open spaces such as lobbies and outdoor areas of six major museums and art galleries in Seoul. It was first introduced last year and received great acclaim. Along with commentary from the SPO's music librarian, audiences can enjoy a variety of genres including classical music, jazz, tango, film music, and pansori.
This year’s Museum Concert will begin with a chamber music performance in the front yard of the Paejae Hakdang History Museum on the 21st and will be held a total of 12 times until October 18. There will be six performances in May, and three each in August and October. In addition to the Paejae Hakdang History Museum, performances are scheduled at the Seoul Craft Museum in Jongno-gu, the Hanseong Baekje Museum in Songpa-gu, the Seoul Metropolitan Buk-Seoul Museum of Art in Nowon-gu, the Songpa Book Museum in Songpa-gu, and the Seoul Museum of History in Jongno-gu.
All performances are free of charge, and detailed information about the concerts can be found on the SPO website.
Besides the Museum Concert, the SPO will also hold , which bring beautiful music as gifts of comfort and inspiration by visiting welfare centers and hospitals in 25 districts of Seoul. The Small Concerts will be presented as four chamber music performances from June 3 to 12. Performances will be held at Seoul National University Hospital Daehan Outpatient Clinic at 12:00 PM on June 4, Seoul Metropolitan Seonam Hospital at 12:30 PM on June 3, Gangbuk Samsung Hospital at 12:30 PM on June 11, and the War Memorial of Korea at 3:00 PM on June 12.
The SPO also plans to present large-scale public concerts that anyone can enjoy without burden, including the Riverside Concert with Citizens (June), Liberation Commemoration Concert (August), Park Concert (September), and Miracle Seoul (December).
