Foreigners Reverse Positions, KOSPI Gives Up Gains... "Below 2740 Level"

The KOSPI, which had recovered above the 2750 level, is giving back its gains due to foreign investors turning to net selling.


As of 1:53 PM on the 20th, the KOSPI recorded 2739.01, up 14.39 points (0.53%) compared to the previous trading day.


On this day, the KOSPI rose more than 1% from the start of trading due to simultaneous net buying by foreigners and institutions, surpassing the 2750 level. However, as foreigners switched to net selling, the gains were given back.


By investor type, individuals and foreigners net sold 325.2 billion KRW and 37.2 billion KRW, respectively. Meanwhile, institutions net bought 372.3 billion KRW.


By sector, food and beverages rose 3.21%, and transportation and warehousing also increased by 2.58%. Additionally, steel & metals and transportation equipment sectors are up more than 1%. Conversely, services, pharmaceuticals, and textiles & apparel sectors fell more than 1%.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics traded at 78,700 KRW, up 1,300 KRW (1.68%). Hyundai Motor and Shinhan Financial Group rose 3.07% and 2.94%, respectively. Kia and KB Financial Group also increased by more than 1%. On the other hand, Celltrion dropped 2.77%, and LG Energy Solution, NAVER, Samsung SDI, and LG Chem fell more than 1%.


The KOSDAQ recorded 843.51, down 11.55 points (1.35%) compared to the previous trading day.


By investor type, individuals and institutions net bought 7.2 billion KRW and 81 billion KRW, respectively. Conversely, foreigners net sold 72.7 billion KRW.


By sector, pharmaceuticals plunged 6.08%, while broadcasting services and non-metal sectors fell more than 2%. Additionally, paper & wood, other manufacturing, and textiles & apparel sectors declined more than 1%. In contrast, information devices rose 1.17%.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, EcoPro BM traded at 211,000 KRW, down 1,500 KRW (0.71%). HLB dropped 29.96%, hitting the lower limit. Along with this, Classys and Celltrion Pharm fell 3.21% and 1.77%, respectively. On the other hand, Enchem rose 5.15%, while Hugel and EO Technics increased 4.22% and 3.85%, respectively.
