The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 20th that, together with the Korea Tourism Organization, it will distribute 250,000 accommodation discount coupons targeting non-metropolitan areas starting from the 28th.
Previously, the Ministry and the Tourism Organization distributed 200,000 accommodation discount coupons in February and March. This led to approximately 86.2 billion KRW in travel expenditures and attracted about 480,000 regional tourists (including companions), contributing to the stimulation of the domestic economy.
During June's Travel Month, accommodation discount coupons will again be provided as part of efforts to revitalize regional tourism and boost the domestic economy. Previously, discount coupons could only be used for accommodation products priced over 50,000 KRW, but during this 'June Travel Month' campaign, the range of eligible accommodation products has been expanded to enhance benefits.
This 'Accommodation Sale Festa' will first hold a 'Regional Special Exhibition' with local governments from the 28th to the 30th, offering increased discount amounts. For reservations of accommodation products priced at 70,000 KRW or more at lodging facilities in 12 non-metropolitan metropolitan cities and provinces such as Gangwon and Gyeongnam, a 50,000 KRW discount coupon will be provided.
The 'main event' will take place from the 3rd to the 30th of next month, targeting lodging facilities in non-metropolitan areas excluding Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon. For reservations of accommodation products priced between 20,000 KRW and less than 70,000 KRW, a 20,000 KRW discount coupon will be provided, and for reservations of accommodation products priced at 70,000 KRW or more, a 30,000 KRW discount coupon will be provided. Eligible facilities include domestic lodging such as hotels, condos, resorts, and pensions; unregistered lodging facilities and short-term rentals are not eligible for discount coupons.
Accommodation discount coupons can be issued on a first-come, first-served basis, one per person, through participating online travel agency channels starting at 10 a.m. on the 28th, and the distribution will end once all coupons are exhausted. After receiving a discount coupon, payment must be made between 10 a.m. on the day of issue and 7 a.m. the following day within the validity period. If the coupon is not used within the validity period due to reservation cancellation or other reasons, the coupon will automatically expire.
Unused coupons can be reissued starting at 10 a.m. the next day. Issued coupons can be applied to accommodation products with check-in dates from the 28th through July 14th. Those who used discount coupons during the February-March event can also participate in this event; however, if they used a 'Regional Special Exhibition' coupon, they cannot receive a 'main event' coupon.
Kim Geun-ho, Director of Tourism Industry Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "With the increased discount benefits of accommodation coupons, we hope that traveling to regions will not only allow people to enjoy the beauty of our land but also invigorate the local economy."
