"Flavor from Pristine Mudflats, Falling for Sinan Nakji Taste"
The Island Octopus Festival Promotion Committee of Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Chairman Kim Young-guk) announced on the 20th that the "9th Island Octopus Festival," held for two days from the 18th to the 19th at Songgong Port in Amhae, concluded successfully.
Before the festival opening declaration, attendees held a moment of salute and silent tribute to the spirits of democracy in commemoration of the 44th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Uprising.
During the festival, various experiential events such as octopus catching experience, food-making performances (octopus sandwich), and tasting events (octopus pasta) were held, along with cultural events including pungmul and Nanta performances prepared by local residents.
County Governor Park Woo-ryang stated, "I am pleased to introduce Sinan octopus, caught in the mineral-rich clean tidal flats, to tourists, and we will continue to actively promote and stimulate consumption of excellent representative seafood produced in our region."
Currently, since the pearl octopus hand fishing was designated as the 6th National Important Fisheries Heritage in November 2019, Sinan-gun has been widely promoting the reputation of Sinan pearl octopus by holding the Octopus Artisan Selection Contest since 2020.
Additionally, the Sinan-gun Festival Promotion Committee plans to hold various island seafood festivals during their peak seasons, including the Kkangdari Festival (Imjado) on the 25th, the Byung-eo Festival (Jido), and the Bandengi Festival (Jeungdo) on June 8.
