Daehan Buddhist Jogye Order 19th District Headquarters Gurye Jirisan Daehwaeomsa Temple (Chief Monk Deokmun) awarded scholarships to students of Honam University during the Buddha’s Birthday Celebration Ceremony for the 2568th Buddhist Era held at Hwaeomsa Gakhwangjeon on May 15.
On this day, Chief Monk Deokmun presented two students from Honam University?Im Jun (3rd year, Department of Beauty and Cosmetology) and Yoo Minhee (4th year, Department of eSports Industry)?with the “Hwaeomsa Regional Future Buddhist Fostering Scholarship Certificate” along with scholarships of 1 million KRW each, totaling 2 million KRW.
Im Jun, who received the scholarship, serves as the president of Honam University’s Buddhist student club “Journey to Find Myself” (advised by Professor Jeon Hyeonjin), while Yoo Minhee is the vice president. Both actively participate in youth Buddhist propagation activities in collaboration with Hwaeomsa Gwangju Bitgoeul Propagation Center (Chief Monk Yeonseong).
Chief Monk Deokmun of Hwaeomsa stated, “I pray that the students who received the scholarships will become Buddhists through their connection with Hwaeomsa, continue good relationships, and achieve their dreams. Hwaeomsa will continue to provide future Buddhist fostering scholarships to Honam University students with a sense of responsibility to nurture talented Buddhists in the region.”
Meanwhile, Honam University and Hwaeomsa signed a memorandum of understanding in November 2017 to promote mutual exchange through character education, education, experience, and volunteer activities for university students. They have actively engaged in exchange activities such as operating temple experience programs for international students, recruiting instructors and providing interpretation support, and expanding templestay experiences.
