Statement Released One Day After Indicating Candidacy for Party Leader

On the 20th, Chairman Jo issued a statement saying, "I will not run for party leader," adding, "I am saying this first because I am concerned that if I do not make this clear, the division and confusion within our party will increase." The day before, on YTN radio, when asked about running for the party convention, he said, "Quite a few people, including the media, have asked me whether I will run for party leader, but if sacrifice is needed for the party now, I will not hesitate to take on any role," implying a possible candidacy.
Chairman Jo also dismissed criticisms that the general election white paper was targeting specific individuals such as former People Power Party Emergency Committee Chairman Han Donghoon. He stated, "There have been unintended controversies regarding this general election white paper," emphasizing, "The white paper absolutely does not attack any specific person or faction, and I have repeatedly said that it was created with only the People Power Party in mind." He added, "Nevertheless, I sincerely apologize to the public and our party members for causing such controversies as a result."
Chairman Jo said, "I will do my best to ensure that the intent and purpose of the general election white paper are not distorted," and added, "I started with the determination never to lose again, and with that same determination, I will see this role through to the end."
