"Buy Food and Get Bitcoin"... CU and Emart24 Promotion with Bithumb

Emart24 Sells Out 30,000 Bitcoin Giveaway Lunchboxes Early
CU Also Runs Bitcoin Giveaway Promotion

The domestic convenience store industry is partnering with the virtual asset exchange Bithumb to hold consecutive events giving away Bitcoin. Due to these rare and unique events in the convenience store sector, some products sold out early due to the prepared quantity being exhausted.

CU, a convenience store operated by BGF Retail, announced on the 20th that it will launch various Bitcoin giveaway promotions in collaboration with Bithumb to celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day. Bitcoin Pizza Day originates from May 22, 2010, when two pizzas were first purchased using Bitcoin as a form of payment.

CU explained that Bithumb planned the Pizza Day Bitcoin event to provide customers visiting convenience stores with unique fun and benefits in line with the popularization of virtual assets. CU customers can participate in two types of events for one week from the 20th to the 26th of this month. Customers need to purchase products at CU and accumulate membership points, then issue coupons on the PocketCU event page, CU's own commerce app, and register them on the Bithumb app by the 31st.

First, CU is conducting the 'More the Merrier Event,' which awards up to 25,000 KRW worth of Bitcoin to customers who purchase pizza-related products. The event products include 17 types of pizza-related items such as CU's private brand (PB) products Deuktem Pizza and ready-to-cook pizza, pizza bread, pizza cheese, pizza-flavored potato chips, as well as all carbonated beverages.

Notably, the more participants enter the event, the higher the amount of Bitcoin awarded. At the end of the event on the 26th, the maximum Bitcoin amount based on the total number of participants will be awarded as follows: under 10,000 participants (15,000 KRW), 10,000 to under 20,000 participants (20,000 KRW), and 20,000 or more participants (25,000 KRW). The number of participants can be checked in real-time on the PocketCU event page.

The second promotion is the 'Bitcoin Double Points Event.' It applies to all products sold at CU, and after purchasing products and accumulating membership points, participants receive Bitcoin equivalent to 50 times the amount of points earned. The total CU membership points accumulated during the event period will be calculated, and Bitcoin worth 50 times that amount will be paid in a lump sum on the 4th of the following month, with a limit of 5,000 KRW per person.

Park Jong-seong, head of marketing at BGF Retail, said, "This event was prepared to reflect the high interest in virtual assets and to provide customers visiting CU with a differentiated shopping experience." He added, "CU will continue to strive to offer customers special fun and benefits by collaborating with various companies across industries."

The lunchbox products at Emart24, which give away Bitcoin, sold out early. Emart24 announced the previous day that the 'Bitcoin Lunchbox,' launched in collaboration with Bithumb, sold out early with the prepared quantity of 30,000 units sold out due to strong customer response.

Emart24 had planned to sell the Bitcoin Lunchbox through in-store and online pre-orders from the 8th to the 31st of this month. However, as news spread through online communities that purchasing the Bitcoin Lunchbox would grant 10,000 KRW worth of Bitcoin, all stock was sold out by the 18th. Following the sell-out of the Bitcoin Lunchbox, Bithumb plans to tally the final sales volume and donate lunchboxes to vulnerable groups in June.

The Bitcoin Lunchbox includes a coupon that allows customers to receive up to 10,000 KRW worth of Bitcoin. Customers who purchase the Bitcoin Lunchbox can enter the coupon number in the Bithumb app via the QR code included in the coupon, complete customer verification, and agree to receive SMS notifications to receive Bitcoin worth 10,000 KRW. However, registration is limited to one time per person.

Although all Bitcoin Lunchboxes have been sold, the coupon number registration period will remain open until the end of this month. Kim Shin-il, marketing team manager at Bithumb, explained, "It has been confirmed that 10,000 customers who purchased the Bitcoin Lunchbox have actually received Bitcoin," adding, "Considering that about two weeks remain for coupon number entry, it is expected that more customers will receive Bitcoin by the end of this month."

Emart24 analyzes that this plan, which allows young people interested in asset management to invest in or take an interest in virtual assets without burden through convenience store lunchboxes, has gained customer approval.

Kim Sang-hyun, marketing manager at Emart24, said, "Customers seem to have found the unique collaboration products between convenience stores and virtual asset exchanges fun and rewarding, which led to continued purchases." He added, "We plan to continue designing various events that can interestingly satisfy customer needs."

Meanwhile, as of 2 p.m. on the day, 1 Bitcoin on Bithumb was trading at 92,847,000 KRW, up 0.02% from the previous day.
