1,150,613 Moviegoers Over Three Days
June Sees Major Release of New Korean Films
'The Outlaws 4,' recorded as the second film this year to surpass 10 million viewers, has maintained its position at the top of the box office for a month since its release.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticket sales network on the 20th, over the past weekend (17th-19th), 'The Outlaws 4' (directed by Heo Myeong-haeng) attracted 418,746 viewers, securing the number one spot at the box office. Its revenue share was 36.3%. The film was released on the 24th of last month and has accumulated a total audience of 10,659,739. The fourth installment is expected to soon surpass the final audience count of 10.68 million for 'The Outlaws 3' (directed by Lee Sang-yong), which was released last year.
The thriller 'She Died' (directed by Kim Se-hwi), starring actors Byun Yo-han and Shin Hye-sun, which premiered on the 15th, drew 241,742 viewers and ranked second. Its cumulative audience is 390,574. In third place was 'War for the Planet of the Apes,' which attracted 155,102 viewers. A total of 767,072 people watched the film.
The animation 'Haikyuu!! The Movie: Decisive Battle on Garbage Dump' gathered 144,352 viewers to take fourth place, while 'Garfield the Movie' attracted 82,056 viewers, ranking fifth. 'IF: Imaginary Friend,' seen by 33,540 viewers, ranked sixth. The total number of moviegoers over the weekend was counted at 1,150,613.
Starring and produced by actor Ma Dong-seok, the 'The Outlaws' series has become a popular franchise, drawing a total of 40 million viewers across its four installments. Even in its fourth weekend, it attracted over 410,000 viewers to theaters, showing strong staying power. The box office rankings are expected to change next weekend. The fifth installment of the popular series 'Mad Max,' titled 'Furiosa: Mad Max Saga,' which opens on the 22nd, recorded a real-time reservation rate of 31.8% (57,587 tickets) as of 9 a.m. The film 'The Designer,' starring actor Kang Dong-won and opening on the 29th of this month, holds a reservation rate of 14.4% (26,054 tickets).
A large number of new Korean films will also be released in June. Starting with 'The Designer,' 'Wonderland' (directed by Kim Tae-yong), featuring actors Suzy, Park Bo-gum, Tang Wei, and Choi Woo-shik, will open on the 5th of next month. On June 21, the film 'Hijacking' (directed by Kim Seong-han), starring Ha Jung-woo, will be released, followed by the comedy 'Handsome Guys' (directed by Nam Dong-hyeop), starring Lee Sung-min and Lee Hee-joon, on June 26. Most major releases have set their release dates in June to avoid clashing with 'The Outlaws,' resulting in new films meeting audiences almost every week.
