Kakao announced on the 20th that the cumulative number of digital card service Tok Student IDs issued since its launch in May last year has surpassed 1 million within just one year. Tok Student ID is a student identification service provided through the KakaoTalk Wallet.
Since February, Kakao has completed additional contracts with university certificate issuance agencies, newly adding Tok Student IDs for 22 universities including Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Pohang University of Science and Technology, and Dankook University. Including this additional contract, the service currently provides identification verification for about 400 universities nationwide.
Tok Student IDs can be issued to any enrolled student or graduate with academic status at the respective university or graduate school. Issued Tok Student IDs can be viewed in the KakaoTalk More tab or KakaoTalk Wallet. Holders can enjoy various benefits at online and offline services partnered with Tok Student ID.
Users who have issued Tok Student IDs can download exclusive Chunsik emoticons, mobile and smartwatch Chunsik wallpapers, and Chunsik PowerPoint (PPT) templates. Additionally, university students enrolled in the KakaoPay university membership service receive discount coupons usable at lifestyle stores (Daiso), fast food chains (McDonald's, Burger King), convenience stores (7-Eleven), and cafes (The Venti, Gongcha).
Lee Jeong-beom, Kakao Tok Certification Leader, said, "Going forward, Kakao will continue to expand the scope of identification and certification services and provide various issuance benefits to enhance users' usability and practicality."
