Realmeter Weekly Public Opinion Survey
President Yoon Seok-yeol's Approval Rating Shows Moderate Rise for 3 Consecutive Weeks
The approval rating of the Democratic Party, which has been experiencing conflicts after selecting a candidate for the Speaker of the National Assembly, showed a significant decline. President Yoon Seok-yeol's approval rating showed a gradual upward trend but remained stagnant in the low 30% range.
According to a public opinion poll released on the 20th by Realmeter (conducted on behalf of Energy Economy Newspaper from the 16th to 17th, targeting 1,001 voters aged 18 and over nationwide, with 97% mobile and 3% landline using an automated response method), the Democratic Party's approval rating dropped by 6.1 percentage points compared to last week's survey, standing at 34.5%. The People Power Party's approval rating rose by 2.1 percentage points to 35.0%. The gap between the two major parties had the Democratic Party ahead of the People Power Party beyond the margin of error last week, but this survey showed a close race within the margin of error.
It appears that the public opinion was influenced by the fact that some Democratic Party supporters who wanted Choo Mi-ae to be elected as the candidate for Speaker in last week's Democratic Party primary were disappointed when Representative Woo Won-sik was elected at the candidate assembly. Since then, there has been ongoing backlash within the Democratic Party, including mass resignations of party members.
The decline in the Democratic Party's approval rating was particularly noticeable in Incheon and Gyeonggi (47.0% → 36.6%), Seoul (36.4% → 27.4%), Daegu and Gyeongbuk (26.6% → 18.1%), and among women (43.2% → 35.3%).
President Yoon's approval rating, which had sharply dropped after the general election (conducted on behalf of Energy Economy Newspaper from the 13th to 17th, targeting 2,002 voters aged 18 and over nationwide, with 97% mobile and 3% landline using an automated response method), has shown a gradual increase for three consecutive weeks. President Yoon's approval rating rose by 0.8 percentage points from the previous survey to 31.4%. Negative evaluations decreased by 1.1 percentage points to 65.5%.
Since recording 30.2% in the fourth week of April, President Yoon's approval rating has been 30.3% in the first week of May, 30.6% in the second week of May, and 31.4% in the third week of May.
