"Epic Life Shot"... Portuguese Woman Captures Blue Meteor While Taking Selfie

Moment of Meteor Falling in Portugal Captured

On the 19th (local time), a video capturing a blue meteor streaking across the skies of Portugal was released. The local woman who filmed the video reportedly saw the meteor by chance while taking a 'selfie.'

On that day, a video of the meteor shared by a Portuguese woman was posted on social media platforms such as X. The video was regarded by netizens as "the best footage capturing this meteor."

In the video, the sky suddenly brightens while the woman is taking a selfie. Startled, she tilts her head upward, and a massive meteor emitting a blue light streaks across the sky, leaving a trail behind.

As the meteor disappears beyond the clouds, the sky quickly returns to its dark color, leaving only the fiery trail visible in the sky. The woman, witnessing this scene firsthand, ends the video with her mouth agape in disbelief.

Netizens responded with comments such as "It looks like a movie trailer," "Undoubtedly the clearest video capturing this meteor," and "Definitely the luckiest person this year."

Meanwhile, according to local media reports including 'News18' from the previous day, the meteor passed over the skies of Spain and Portugal on the night of the 18th. It became a significant topic as the European Space Agency (ESA) took and directly released photos of the meteor.

ESA estimates that this meteor was likely a fragment that broke off from a larger comet. The meteor, burning due to frictional heat while passing through the atmosphere, flew at an incredible speed of 45 km per second and appears to have completely burned up over the Atlantic Ocean.

The light emitted during the meteor's final burning moments was so dazzling that it was visible not only in Portugal but also in neighboring Spain. On social media, dozens of videos capturing the moment the meteor flew by were posted.
