On the 19th (local time), at the Valhalla Golf Club (par 71, 7,609 yards) in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, the second major tournament of the year, the 106th PGA Championship (total prize money $18.5 million) concluded. Scheffler shot 6-under par in the final round, jumping 16 spots to finish tied for 8th place (13-under par 271). Although he failed to secure his fifth win of the season, he recorded his 10th top-10 finish.

Scheffler endured a difficult week. Before the second round of the tournament, he was involved in a commotion where he was arrested and then released by the police. On the morning of the 16th, near the entrance to Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, where the PGA Championship was being held, an incident occurred. Scheffler did not follow the instructions of a police officer who was managing a traffic accident near the golf course entrance and was stopped by the officer.

At that time, the area near the golf course entrance was very congested due to a fatal accident where a pedestrian crossing illegally was hit and killed by a passing car. During the process of stopping Scheffler’s vehicle, the police officer was injured. The police pulled Scheffler out of the car, handcuffed him, and took him into custody. He was charged with reckless driving, ignoring police signals, and assaulting a police officer. He was even photographed for a mugshot before being released. After the police investigation, he was freed and played the second round, shooting 5-under par to rise to a tie for 4th place.

However, Scheffler faced another challenge in the third round. His dedicated caddie, Ted Scott, took a day off to attend his daughter’s high school graduation. Brad Payne, Scheffler’s friend and a touring chaplain on the PGA Tour, carried the caddie bag, but the results were not good. With 5 birdies, 5 bogeys, and 1 double bogey, Scheffler lost 2 strokes and dropped to a tie for 24th place. Fortunately, he showed the strength of a top player on the final day and finished in the top 10, but he is scheduled to face trial soon.
