"Environmental Education for Children Using Old Clothes"... GS Retail Launches ESG Campaign 'Chingu'

Donation of 140,179 points through 3-year Friend Campaign... Equivalent to 200 Pine Trees

GS Retail announced on the 20th that it will collaborate with the non-profit public interest organization Areumdawoon Gage to receive donations of unworn clothes and upcycle them as part of its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) campaign "Saving the Earth with Eco-friendliness ('Chingu')."

'Chingu' is a national participatory ESG campaign that GS Retail first launched in 2021 and has continued for four years. It was designed to promote the virtuous cycle of resources that are still usable but discarded, and to convey the importance of protecting the Earth's environment, focusing on children as the future generation.

Previously, over the three years of the ESG campaign 'Chingu,' more than 5,000 people participated, and 140,179 items were donated. It is estimated that the resource circulation through upcycling reduced approximately 28 tons of carbon emissions, which is equivalent to planting more than 200 young pine trees. The upcycled products from the donated items were assembled into environmental education kits and delivered to over 2,500 children cumulatively.

This year, GS Retail is launching the fourth 'Chingu' ESG campaign and will accept donated items until the 29th of next month. Those wishing to participate in 'Chingu' can donate items non-face-to-face through parcel machines located in GS25 convenience stores and GS The Fresh supermarkets operated by GS Retail, or directly donate at 26 Areumdawoon Gage branch stores nationwide.

The donated items will be upcycled into stationery sets such as awning pencil cases and newspaper pencils, as well as doll keyring kits. A project to produce workbooks themed on 'Green Jobs,' referring to jobs that positively impact the Earth's environment, will also be promoted to support children's eco-friendly learning. The environmental education kits will be distributed to 300 children, primarily from vulnerable groups.

To encourage donations and event participation, a raffle will be held to give away upcycled sacoche bags and GS25 coupons worth 3,000 won. Detailed participation methods and event information can be found through the Our Neighborhood GS app, the GS Shop app under the 'GS Benefits' menu, and Areumdawoon Gage's donation platform Areumdawoon Nanum.
