MS to Unveil AI PC Vision This Week

Microsoft is set to unveil its vision for the 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) PC' at the developer conference 'Build 2024' taking place this week, according to a report by the U.S. financial media CNBC on the 19th (local time).

According to the report, Microsoft's developer conference will be held from the 21st to the 23rd in Seattle, USA. At this event, Microsoft plans to announce how AI will be integrated into Windows and how Windows will enable AI PCs.

An AI PC refers to a PC equipped with hardware and software (SW) suitable for processing artificial intelligence and machine learning. Earlier in January, Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, predicted that 2024 would be the year when AI becomes an essential feature of every PC.

CNBC stated, "One of Microsoft's clear strengths in the AI competition is that it owns Windows, which provides a massive PC user base," adding, "Microsoft faces two challenges: maintaining a leading position in the AI sector and boosting the stagnant PC sales." In March, Microsoft also released PCs and laptops with its own AI model, Copilot, integrated as a dedicated button on the keyboard.

Notably, Microsoft's announcement comes shortly after Google held 'Google I/O 2024' and unveiled a search engine equipped with the latest Gemini AI model, drawing attention. Prior to Google, OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, also introduced a new AI model called 'GPT-4o (Four-O).' Microsoft is a major investor in OpenAI, and Copilot technology is based on OpenAI's models, CNBC added.

Additionally, Microsoft is expected to discuss the next version of Windows based on Qualcomm chips at this conference. Unlike Intel and AMD, Qualcomm chips operate on an Arm-based architecture. Microsoft is also anticipated to launch its self-developed AI semiconductor, 'Cobalt 100.' First unveiled in November last year, the Cobalt 100 is a central processing unit (CPU) designed for high-performance computing tasks and is evaluated to outperform other Arm-based chips on the market by 40%. Furthermore, major foreign media outlets have reported that Microsoft will introduce its AI strategy and demonstrate large language models (LLM) at this conference.
