" Husband is Chinese... Not Fluent in Korean, That's Why" Explanation
Keep Food Contaminants if Found... Report to MFDS and 1399
A netizen found a cockroach in the food they ordered through a delivery app. After writing a review about it, the owner responded by saying, "We already refunded you, so is this really necessary?" which infuriated the netizen.
On the 19th, a post titled "No response after saying there was a cockroach in the delivery food" was uploaded to an online community.
In the post, the author said, "This is the first time something like this has happened while ordering delivery, but these days, cockroaches are coming out," and asked, "The rating was high, so I ordered it, and they said they would refund me, but how should I handle this kind of situation?"
The photo the author posted showed what appeared to be a dead insect among the food, presumed to be stir-fried jjambbong. After requesting a refund from the store and sending their account number, the refund was not deposited for 30 minutes, so the author left a review on the delivery app.
In the review, the author wrote, "I ordered it when I was really hungry and had high expectations, but after a few bites, a cockroach came out, and I threw up everything," adding, "I don’t know how they manage hygiene, but this gave me trauma, so I don’t think I can order from here again. This is the first time something like this has happened while ordering delivery food, and it’s disgusting. Please collect the food."
The owner replied, "First of all, I already apologized. Our store has been using CESCO from the beginning since we started business, so this is the first time something like this has happened," and added, "Anyway, since it came from our food, we have nothing to say, but we already refunded you, so is it really necessary to go this far?"
They also said, "As someone who runs a business with difficulty, I sincerely apologize. I am sorry."
The author said, "They say they will refund, but their attitude toward apologizing is lacking," and appealed, "Logically, since they have my number, they should call back and apologize properly." Later, the delivery app contacted the author by phone to apologize and also accepted a separate foreign substance report.
When the author called the store again, the female owner responded. The author revealed that the female owner explained the comment by saying, "My Chinese husband wrote it, and his tone was awkward, so it was written that way."
Meanwhile, if foreign substances are found in food, it is necessary to take photos of the foreign substance and the food, place the foreign substance in a zipper bag or container, and report it to the food hygiene department. Especially since it is often difficult to conduct an accurate investigation if the foreign substance is not preserved, it is important to accurately record the situation at the time and keep the foreign substance.
Reports can be made on the integrated civil complaint consultation service page on the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety website. Alternatively, you can call '1399' without an area code from anywhere nationwide, and you will be connected to the food hygiene department (sanitation division) of the relevant city, county, or district office.
