'36th Anniversary' Seven-Eleven, Working Hard for the Local Community

As the first convenience store in Korea, 7-Eleven opened the door to the convenience store era in South Korea by establishing Korea Seven in 1988 and opening the 7-Eleven Olympic Athletes' Village store in May of the following year. This event, planned to commemorate Korea Seven's 36th anniversary, took place at the Donghaeng Store 'Ongi Warehouse' located in the Jjokbangchon area of Dongja-dong, Yongsan-gu. About 30 7-Eleven franchise owners and employees joined forces to donate goods worth approximately 15 million KRW, including daily necessities, beverages, refrigerated foods, and bakery items, and continued volunteer activities for the residents of Jjokbangchon.

Last year, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of supporting the Seoul Jjokbangchon community, 7-Eleven jointly opened the Jjokbangchon-specialized food market Ongi Warehouse with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and signed a three-year regular support agreement. To date, they have donated goods worth about 100 million KRW.

This Jjokbangchon support event was conducted through three activities: 'volunteer work,' 'one-day cafe operation,' and 'visiting the elderly.' 7-Eleven franchise owners and employees arranged products in the correct locations to make it more convenient for Jjokbangchon residents visiting Ongi Warehouse to use the store, and operated a one-day cafe so that anyone visiting Ongi Warehouse could enjoy cool beverages and snacks amid the rapidly rising temperatures.

For elderly residents in the area who could not visit Ongi Warehouse, they prepared gifts consisting of various 7-Eleven products such as daily necessities, food, and snacks and personally visited them, working hard to improve the living environment of Jjokbangchon residents and to accompany the local community. Franchise owners who continue their exceptional good deeds also participated. Im Heung-sook, the franchise owner of 7-Eleven Seoraenaru Store, empathized with the purpose of operating Ongi Warehouse and donated 5 million KRW last year, and this time also generously contributed food and daily necessities worth 5 million KRW for the support event.

Yang Ji-hyun, head of the 7-Eleven ESG Strategy Planning Team, said, "To celebrate our 36th anniversary, we planned this support event to share the love we received from customers with the local community and to create a happier society together." She added, "We will continue sustainable ESG activities to give back to society in various ways and fulfill our social responsibilities."
