Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam conducted an event to promote public-private cooperation for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and released mudfish into Sanhocheon Stream at Pureunae Children's Park in Yangdeok-dong as part of water purification activities.
On the 18th, more than 300 citizens, including Changwon Special City Mayor Hong Nam-pyo, Provincial Assembly Member Cho Youngmyung, Changwon City Council Vice Chairman Moon Sungyu, City Council Members Son Taehwa and Hwang Jeombok, Korea JC Gyeongul District Chairman Oh Jongtaek, Dongmasan JC Chairman Bae Saehyun and members, participated in the event jointly organized by Changwon City and Dongmasan Junior Chamber. Participants learned and experienced ways to practice the SDGs for a sustainable planet.
In particular, mudfish were released into Sanhocheon Stream to provide an eco-friendly way to control mosquito and mayfly larvae. The mudfish's habit of burrowing into the riverbed helps supply oxygen, which is effective for improving water quality and the urban environment.
Citizens who participated in the event enjoyed various activities such as ▲participating in the children's flea market ▲video education on proper waste separation ▲SDG quizzes ▲making fans and eco-bags ▲environmental cleanup activities around Sanhocheon Stream ▲and performances including taekwondo, magic, and dance.
In his congratulatory remarks, Mayor Hong expressed his gratitude to Dongmasan JC, saying, "After engaging in various activities for the local community, I am very thankful to Dongmasan JC for taking the initiative this year to hold an SDG practice event for the preservation of the global environment. Climate change is a crisis, but our city will embrace it as a new opportunity and prepare to take the path of innovative growth for the future and changes that citizens can truly feel."
Meanwhile, Dongmasan JC held an ESG practice event last year and, starting this year, has expanded its activities by switching to an SDG practice event, with plans to continue these efforts next year as well.
