Seongdong-gu 'Pet Health Signals & Emergency Care Special Lecture... Including CPR Experience'

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will hold a special lecture on "Pet Health Signals and Emergency First Aid Education" at 3 p.m. on May 20th in the main auditorium on the 3rd floor of Seongdong-gu Office.

According to the '2023 Korea Pet Report (published by KB Financial Group)', as of the end of 2022, there are approximately 5.52 million households raising pets in South Korea, and the biggest concern among pet-owning households regarding pet care is 'pet health management' (55.0%).

In response, Seongdong-gu has prepared the 'Pet Health Signals and Emergency First Aid Special Lecture' to help pet-owning households recognize their pets' health conditions in advance and actively respond to emergencies.

The lecture will be divided into two parts and delivered by three distinguished veterinarians. The first part, titled "Understanding Pet Health Signals," will be conducted by veterinarian Kim Myung-chul, known as a cat behavior expert and nicknamed "Miyaongcheol." The second part will be taught by veterinarians Kim Seok-jung and Kim Hyo-jin from 24-Hour Central Animal Medical Center located in Seongdong-gu, who will provide easy and engaging education on pet emergency first aid methods such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the Heimlich maneuver.

In particular, an emergency first aid experience booth will also be operated during this lecture. It is expected to be a valuable opportunity to learn practical pet emergency first aid techniques and directly experience CPR. The experience session will accept applications on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 100 participants on-site.

Interested residents can apply through the Seongdong-gu Office website or the "Seongdong-gu Pet Dog Together Center," and for more details, inquiries can be made to the Women's and Family Affairs Department's Pet Policy Team.

Seongdong-gu is also promoting various projects to foster a mature pet culture, including "Our Neighborhood Animal Hospital" for animal welfare of vulnerable groups, the counseling platform "Pet Dog Together Center" to address behavioral issues of pet dogs, and the "Visiting Pet Dog Home Class" providing one-on-one expert training for dogs needing behavior correction.

Mayor Jung Won-oh of Seongdong-gu said, "Maintaining a happy relationship with pets requires paying attention to their health signals and learning related knowledge, so I hope this special pet lecture will be a beneficial time for pet-owning households. We will continue to operate useful and diverse programs for pet households in the future."
