Headquarters "Process of Receiving Live Chicken Orders and Moving Them to the Refrigerator"
Recently Under Franchise Hygiene Spotlight
A well-known chicken franchise store was reported by a customer to have left raw chicken on the floor, sparking controversy, according to Yonhap News on the 18th.
According to the report, Mr. A, who lives in Seoul, was shocked when he went to pick up chicken he ordered from a certain chicken franchise in March and saw raw chicken scattered on the floor. The staff seemed unfazed and continued cooking as if it was nothing to be surprised about. Since this incident happened at a famous chicken franchise, Mr. A decided to expose the unsanitary conditions by taking photos and posting them on a Naver cafe.
When posting the photos, Mr. A stated, "The chickens that go into our mouths were left on the dirty store floor with only plastic sheets underneath, and the indifferent staff were seasoning, frying, and moving around," adding, "Headquarters needs to take action."
The chicken store in question is one of the top-selling franchises in the country. The chicken headquarters visited Mr. A, gave him 10 chicken coupons and cash, and the controversial post was deleted. The headquarters imposed a 3-day business suspension and 2 days of special training on the store, preventing it from operating for 5 days. The store has been put up for sale as it became difficult to continue business due to the exposure of unsanitary conditions.
The chicken headquarters said, "We apologize for causing concern to our customers and franchise owners due to this incident," and added, "We explained the measures taken to the customer and expressed our gratitude by offering a small token of goodwill for giving us the opportunity to correct the issues."
They claimed, "(The store) was confirmed to have temporarily placed raw chicken on the floor while transferring it from headquarters to the refrigerator," and stated, "We will do our utmost to prevent such incidents from recurring by thoroughly managing hygiene. We will strive to be a chicken franchise that customers can trust."
Recently, the hygiene conditions of famous franchises have frequently come under scrutiny. At a coffee franchise store, a consumer was hospitalized after drinking tangerine juice made with the plastic still on. At a hamburger franchise store, a plastic glove was found in a hamburger, and the consumer who complained was instead labeled a black consumer (malicious complainant).
