Collaboration with Busan City, Detailed Plans Initiated by Working Groups
Dongseo University held a kickoff meeting for the working subcommittee within the Glocal Consortium University General Promotion Group.
The Glocal Consortium University Promotion Committee is the highest decision-making body related to the consortium university, consisting of the presidents of Dongseo University and Dong-A University, the Mayor of Busan, and representatives from industry and alumni. Under this committee, separate general promotion groups from both universities and the Busan Glocal University Support Group are organized to make key decisions regarding glocal-related matters for each institution.
The working subcommittee kickoff meeting, held on the 13th floor of the New Millennium Hall on the 16th, was chaired by Cho Dae-su, Director of Planning and Research. The subcommittees were divided into 'Governance/Performance Management', 'Education/Research (Academic Structure, Consortium Education Innovation, Specialized Fields)', 'Industry-Academia-Region', 'Global', 'Regional', 'DX/Student Support', and 'Public Relations'. Each subcommittee will have designated members to establish and implement action plans.
During the meeting, explanations were provided on the designation procedures and schedule for the glocal university, the formation of task forces, the format for preparing action plans, and the main contents of the Glocal Consortium University Innovation Plan. There was also a session for collecting opinions and Q&A from the working subcommittee members regarding the innovation plan and future schedule.
Dongseo University and Dong-A University, together with Busan City, are promoting a glocal university strategy under the vision of a 'Busan Open Consortium University that realizes joint benefits for Busan City and universities based on an integrated industry-academia cooperation group.'
The 'Glocal University 30' project is a government initiative to intensively foster regional universities, providing a total of 100 billion KRW in support over five years.
Dongseo University was selected as a preliminary designated university after submitting an innovation plan in consortium type with Dong-A University for the '2024 Glocal University 30' call for proposals. The consortium university type, suggested by the Ministry of Education, allows two or more universities to maintain their independence while establishing a joint decision-making body and applying as a consortium to achieve shared goals.
Preliminarily designated universities must submit an action plan in cooperation with local governments and regional industries by July 26. The final selection of about ten universities will be announced in August.
