The 'AI Seoul Summit,' attended by heads of state from major countries and global big tech leaders, will be held over two days on the 21st and 22nd. This event is expected to emphasize not only the safety of artificial intelligence (AI) technology development but also the spirit of innovation and inclusion.

The AI Seoul Summit is the second meeting following the first 'AI Safety Summit' held in the UK last November. Co-hosted by Korea and the UK, this event is divided into a 'Leaders' Session' and a 'Ministers' Session.'

First, the Leaders' Session will be held via video conference for 90 minutes from 8:30 PM to 10:00 PM on the 21st. President Yoon Suk-yeol (pictured) and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will co-chair the meeting.

Song Sang-hoon, Director General of the Information and Communication Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "Heads of state from major countries, leaders of international organizations, and big tech representatives will attend." A detailed list of participants will be disclosed later.

While last year's AI Safety Summit focused on AI crisis response and safety, this year's AI Seoul Summit plans to expand the scope to include the spirit of innovation and inclusion to inform the international community.

The Ministers' Session will be held in person at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) from 2:20 PM to 5:40 PM on the 22nd. The session will be co-chaired by Lee Jong-ho, Minister of Science and ICT, and Michelle Donelan, UK Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology. Key figures from governments, industry, academia, and civil society from more than 19 countries will participate. Discussions will focus on two main themes: ▲ Strengthening capabilities to establish AI safety and ▲ Promoting sustainable AI development.

During the Ministers' Session, the current status of AI safety research institutes in major countries will be shared, and plans for global cooperation will be discussed. Additionally, based on the 'International Scientific Report on AI Safety,' a follow-up to the first meeting, AI risk factors will be diagnosed, and measures to enhance safety will be explored.

Measures to secure resilience against side effects caused by AI in areas such as energy, environment, and jobs will also be discussed. Director Song said, "As the need to respond to massive power consumption increases, we will establish a new global agenda centered on Korea's AI and semiconductor vision, including low-power semiconductors."

From 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on the 22nd, the 'AI Global Forum' will take place. The forum consists of a high-level roundtable in the morning and expert sessions in the afternoon. The afternoon expert sessions will be live-streamed on YouTube so that the general public can listen in.
