Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province will hold the 'Simgokcheon Alley Festival' at Starlight Park on the third Saturday of every month from the 18th to October 19th (excluding the hot summer period in August).
The Simgokcheon Alley Festival is part of the Wonmi area urban regeneration project aimed at revitalizing the village-based local community. It is organized by the Wonmi Village Management Social Cooperative and hosted by Bucheon City.
Wonmi Village residents, the Simgok Village Education Council (Wonmi Elementary School and Somyeong Girls' Middle School), and local networks collaborate to promote the festival, which will feature various cultural experiences, performances, and flea markets every month.
In the first month of the event, cultural experience booths such as making 3D wooden characters, Yongyong keyrings, family point caricatures, personalized healing flower tea bags, mental health check-ups, and making used battery collection boxes will be operated at Starlight Park from 1 PM to 6 PM.
Shin Sang-hyun, director of the Wonmi Village Management Social Cooperative, said, "It is meaningful that the Wonmi Village Cultural Festival, which started in 2018 to provide various experiences to local residents through the village community, has grown into the Simgokcheon Alley Festival. We expect great enthusiasm from the residents."
Jo Yong-ik, mayor of Bucheon City, said, "As the Simgokcheon Alley Festival is a symbolic local festival of the Wonmi area, I hope many citizens can feel the meaning and joy of life in the village through the event."
