Incheon City will provide customized vocational training to strengthen the self-reliance capabilities of marriage immigrants and support their social advancement.
The city announced on the 16th that it will operate specialized vocational education and training courses for marriage immigrants at family centers in six districts until November to develop the job skills of marriage immigrants who wish to find employment or start a business.
This initiative is promoted as a project by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in response to the increasing employment demand due to the prolonged residence period of marriage immigrants and the emerging need for tailored policies.
According to a nationwide multicultural family survey conducted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the proportion of naturalized marriage immigrants who have settled long-term for over 10 years increased from 60.6% in 2018 to 68.5% in 2021. Additionally, employment demand has significantly increased due to income and retirement security related to the spouses of marriage immigrants and the need to raise school-age children.
The education program is planned and operated jointly by family centers and vocational training institutions, supporting the entire process from basic education such as Korean language and basic job skills to customized vocational training and employment linkage.
The vocational training period is conducted in six districts: Michuhol-gu, Yeonsu-gu, Namdong-gu, Bupyeong-gu, Gyeyang-gu, and Seo-gu, offering courses for a total of 94 marriage immigrants in areas such as ▲online store ▲skin care education ▲online marketing creator ▲bilingual instructor ▲video interpretation and translation.
Participation in the vocational training courses requires completion of preliminary basic education (computer, Korean language, etc.). All courses are free of charge, and students receive a monthly education activity allowance of 100,000 KRW.
