Experience Autonomous Driving at Hyundai Booth in Partnership with AWS

On the afternoon of the 16th, at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, during the 'Amazon Web Services (AWS) Summit Seoul 2024,' a reporter experiencing the SDV (Software-Defined Vehicle) autonomous driving simulation at the Hyundai Motor booth raised their hands to the steering wheel to avoid obstacles, and the staff said this. In this program, where three participants simultaneously become autonomous driving racers, driving skills were not a necessary factor to win. Before the race, correctly inputting the values of the virtual electronic control unit (vECU), such as front scanning distance, target speed, and obstacle avoidance path generation variables, was the most important.

The sensor data of each vehicle in the simulation is transmitted to the AWS cloud and can be checked on a dashboard. Each seat allows participants to view only the status of their own autonomous vehicle, but on a large screen installed at the front of the booth, the location of each vehicle in the arena, the set driving values, rankings, and more could be checked in real time. In the first round, all three vehicles were disqualified after hitting obstacles. Using the data obtained from the first round to improve the vECU, the second round was conducted, resulting in one participant completing the course and winning. A booth official said, "Autonomous driving requires creating various conditions and running tens of thousands of cases to review safe driving conditions, so a cloud-based environment is much more efficient."
Hyundai Motor is also applying AI technology based on AWS cloud technology in vehicle infotainment. Using cameras installed inside the vehicle, machine learning is applied to the driver's appearance to detect intruders or hazardous objects and deliver real-time alerts to the driver. Moreover, the navigation system installed in each vehicle provides convenient information based on generative AI. Manufacturers can also collect information and satisfaction data of vehicle users gathered through the navigation system.

In addition, battery companies and automobile manufacturers related to car batteries can share real-time battery-related information based on data uploaded to the cloud, enabling the establishment of a battery circular economy network.
The AWS Summit Seoul, held over two days from the 16th to the 17th, is the largest cloud technology conference in Korea since 2015 and is being held on its 10th anniversary this year at its largest scale. Keynotes on cloud and generative AI innovation and more than 100 sessions are being conducted.
More than 60 booths, including a robot dog emotion expression game zone and the Amazon Bedrock Gallery, are available during the event, allowing participants to experience the use of generative AI and cloud technology.
