AWS "Even Non-Experts Develop with 'AmazonQ'... 100,000 Lines of Code Generated in Four Months"

Francesca Vasquez, Vice President of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Professional Services and Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation Center, stated, "With 'Amazon Q,' even those who are not AI experts can generate the necessary code for development and easily find where to add the code." Amazon Q is an enterprise-specific AI chatbot launched by AWS in November last year.

On the 16th, at 'AWS Summit Seoul 2024' held at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Vice President Vasquez made these remarks. She then mentioned the British telecommunications company BT Group, which uses Amazon Q, saying, "Over the past four months, more than 100,000 lines of code have been created," adding, "tedious and time-consuming tasks have been automated."

Vasquez emphasized that Amazon Q can enhance productivity at every stage of development, including planning, design, code implementation, testing, deployment, and operation. For example, when joining a team working on new drug-related tasks, if you ask in natural language to "generate the code needed for development," it provides answers about the code and its functions. Applying this to 'Amazon Bedrock,' which supports generative AI application development, enables the implementation of the desired form of development. Beyond simply providing code, it helps intensively with problem-solving, including where to apply the code and the causes of errors when they occur. Vasquez said, "Users, including research teams, can also ask what steps are needed to solve problems, helping them work more efficiently."

AWS is collaborating with many companies attempting generative AI innovation through cloud technology. Ham Ki-ho, CEO of AWS Korea, said, "As the Korean cloud industry prepares for a new decade beyond its 10-year history, it is facing an important turning point in terms of sustainability and cost reduction," adding, "This includes carbon reduction through eco-friendly cloud and generative AI cost optimization." AWS is working with companies building massive AI models such as NCSoft's 'Barco,' LG's 'Exaone 2.0,' and Upstage's 'Solar Mini.'

Anthropic is attempting generative AI innovation based on strategic cooperation with AWS. Nirav Kingsland, Head of Partnerships at Anthropic, said, "What is important for LLMs are chips and research data, and these are growing rapidly," adding, "In particular, chip quality improves two to three times every cycle." He continued, "Claude 3 is currently released, but Claude 5, which we will see in a few years, is expected to have performance improved by more than 100 times compared to it." Anthropic also noted that by partnering with Pfizer, Lonely Planet, SK Telecom, and others based on LLMs, it is helping reduce the cost of creating domain-specific LLMs.

Additionally, cases of SK Telecom's Jung Seok-geun, Head of Global AI Tech Division, and Woowa Brothers' CTO Song Jae-ha, both AWS customers and partners, were shared.

The AWS Summit Seoul, held over two days from the 16th to the 17th, is the largest cloud technology conference in Korea since 2015 and celebrated its 10th anniversary this year with the largest scale ever. Keynotes on cloud and generative AI innovation and more than 100 sessions are conducted. During the event, participants can experience how to utilize generative AI and cloud technology at over 60 AWS partner booths, including Hyundai Motor's autonomous driving simulator, a robot dog emotion expression game zone, and the Amazon Bedrock gallery.
