Climbing Cliffs Relying on Ropes Without Professional Equipment
Viewing Allowed, but Climbing the Mountain Is Prohibited
A group of hikers in Vietnam was captured climbing a rocky mountain dozens of meters high with bare hands, without any safety devices or equipment. On the 12th (local time), the local media Tuoi Tre reported on a video from the previous day showing a group of hikers climbing to the summit of Hon Chuong Mountain in Bin Dinh Province, central Vietnam, using only their bare hands and feet.

The video shows the hikers relying solely on a rope without professional equipment as they climb the steep cliff with their bare hands. After reaching the summit, the group held the Vietnamese flag and took commemorative photos, which they posted on social media (SNS). According to the Vietnamese government’s announcement, Hon Chuong Mountain is a desolate area where no one lives. Tourists can visit near the mountain with guidance from local residents, but climbing to the summit is prohibited.
What caused significant controversy over the video is that there are ancient relics at the summit of Hon Chuong Mountain. At the summit stands a bell-shaped stone tower approximately 49 meters high. A national study on the origin and history of this relic is underway, and unauthorized access by the public could risk damaging the relic.

In fact, this is the first time hikers have appeared on this mountain. After the video and photos were widely shared, Vietnamese netizens also expressed concern. Comments included, "Watching their climbing process makes my heart stop from fear," and "The government must closely monitor and investigate them." A local official stated, "Relevant agencies will confirm the incident and take immediate action," adding, "Such incidents must not be neglected. They pose risks to people’s safety and lives and could also affect the region’s image."
