Kwon Youngjin of People Power Party: "If Choo Mi-ae, Who Tried to Oust Yoon Sukyeol, Becomes Speaker, the National Assembly Will Be a Battlefield"

Kwon Youngjin, the elected representative of the People Power Party (Daegu Dalseo-byeong), stated on the 16th, "Chu Mi-ae's appointment as Speaker of the National Assembly is a declaration of war by Lee Jaemyung against the President."

On Facebook that day, Kwon claimed, "Chu Mi-ae, who has been virtually nominated as the Democratic Party's candidate for Speaker of the National Assembly, boasted in a media interview that she had several in-depth discussions in advance with Representative Lee Jaemyung regarding the Speaker election, and even said she hoped Lee would do well."

Kwon continued, "The answer to the mystery of why pro-Lee lawmakers, who were initially considered strong candidates for Speaker, all withdrew and supported Chu Mi-ae, was ultimately 'Myeongsim.' Now, even the Speaker of the National Assembly, who should stand in a politically neutral position as the second-highest in state authority, is being appointed at the whim of the opposition leader who has seized control of both the Assembly and the party. No matter how much power the Yeouido President has, this show of force is excessive. The Speaker is supposed to be elected by secret ballot according to the National Assembly Act, but this move not only renders the law meaningless, it tramples on intra-party democracy and treats lawmakers as mere pawns for political maneuvering," he criticized.

Kwon further stated, "Who is Chu Mi-ae? As Minister of Justice under the Moon Jaein administration, she was the main figure who shook the foundations of the country by exerting all sorts of unreasonable and unjust pressure to oust then-Prosecutor General Yoon Sukyeol, now President. Recently, she has been openly declaring her intention to run the National Assembly in a biased manner for Lee Jaemyung's presidential ambitions, singing the bizarre praises of 'Myeongsim is public sentiment' without hiding her true intentions."

Kwon also said, "If the combination of President Yoon Sukyeol and Speaker Chu Mi-ae becomes reality, the Speaker's authority to bring bills to the floor, the Democratic Party's legislative blitz, and the President's veto will clash on every issue, making the cooperation the people desire disappear and turning the National Assembly into something resembling a battlefield. Chu Mi-ae's speakership is nothing less than a declaration of war by Lee Jaemyung against President Yoon Sukyeol. Lee Jaemyung must immediately withdraw this reckless declaration of war that divides the people and drives our politics toward mutual destruction," he urged.
