Geumcheon-gu Publicly Recruits Resident Participation Budget Committee Members for Budget Planning Participation

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it is recruiting members for the 7th Geumcheon-gu Resident Participatory Budget Committee, who will directly participate in processes such as budget formulation on behalf of the residents, until May 27.

The "Resident Participatory Budget" is a system that guarantees residents' participation in the budget formulation process to ensure transparency and democracy in budgeting and to realize direct democracy in financial matters.

The "Resident Participatory Budget Committee" is composed of a total of 40 appointed members, including 20 members recruited through open applications and 20 members recommended by each neighborhood autonomous council, according to the "Seoul Special City Geumcheon-gu Resident Participatory Budget Operation Ordinance."

This year, new members will be openly recruited for areas with vacancies: 1 member from Gasan-dong, 1 member from Doksan 1-dong, 2 members from Doksan 3-dong, 1 member from Siheung 1-dong, 1 member from Siheung 2-dong, and 2 members from Siheung 4-dong, totaling 8 new members.

Selected members will be assigned to subcommittees such as transportation & housing, parks & environment, welfare & women, economy & culture & tourism, and will serve for two years from the appointment date, with a maximum of six years if reappointed.

Members participate in activities that collect and consolidate residents' opinions on budget formulation (proposing and discovering participatory budget projects), and in gathering opinions and adjusting priorities on the budget plan (deciding the priority of participatory budget projects for the following year).

Anyone residing in Geumcheon-gu or working at institutions or businesses located within the district can apply. Applicants can check the guidelines on the Geumcheon-gu Office website under "Notices & Announcements," download and complete the application form, and submit it via email, visit the Autonomous Administration Division at the district office, or send it by mail.

Applicants will be distinguished by neighborhood, and members will be selected through a random electronic lottery on May 28. Applicants may observe the lottery if they wish. The district office will announce the results on the Geumcheon-gu Office website on May 30 and notify individuals separately.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "I hope many residents actively participate and provide innovative ideas so that diverse opinions of residents can be reflected in the budget," and added, "We will actively support the activities of the 7th Resident Participatory Budget Committee to be formed."
