"Valuing Citizens' Lives as Precious as Gold, a Fundamental Duty of the State"

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said on the 15th, on the occasion of Buddha's Birthday, "We reflect on the spirit of Wonyong Hoetong (圓融會通), which harmonizes different thoughts and communicates them as one," adding, "I believe that by using this value as a beacon, our politics can overcome hostility and conflict and advance solely on the path of people's livelihood."

On the morning of the same day, Lee posted on his Facebook, "Celebrating Buddha's Birthday, I will reflect on the duties that politics must fulfill at this very moment," expressing these thoughts.

Lee began by saying, "Buddha was not in the temple. He was born on the road and breathed together with sentient beings caught in suffering," and continued, "He awakened everyone with the wisdom that all people are noble and everyone is equal." He then added, "The responsibility of politics in this era is no different. Each life carries the weight of the universe," emphasizing, "Valuing the lives of the people as precious as gold is a fundamental duty of the state, and it will never be neglected."
