The Korea Student Aid Foundation (Chairman Bae Byeong-il) and the Umi Hope Foundation (Chairman Lee Seok-jun) held a scholarship certificate awarding ceremony for the Blue Lighthouse Umi Hope Foundation Donation Scholarship at the Korea Student Aid Foundation Seoul Office on the 13th.
The Umi Hope Foundation is a public interest corporation established by Umi Construction in 2006, continuing support projects for descendants of national merit recipients, families affected by industrial accidents, multicultural families, and others. In 2023, it donated 300 million KRW to the Korea Student Aid Foundation to reduce the educational expenses burden for families of industrial accident workers and to support housing costs for low-income college students.
At the Korea Student Aid Foundation Seoul Office conference room, Bae Seong-geun, Scholarship Director of the Korea Student Aid Foundation (first from the left), and Lee Chun-seok, Secretary General of the Umi Hope Foundation (first from the right), attended the scholarship certificate awarding ceremony and took a commemorative photo with the scholarship recipients.
In the first semester of 2024, the Korea Student Aid Foundation selected 50 Blue Lighthouse Umi Hope Foundation donation scholarship recipients by comprehensively evaluating household income and academic performance among college students from industrial accident families and those needing housing support. Each recipient was awarded a living expense scholarship of 2 million KRW and a Dream Fulfillment scholarship of 1 million KRW. An additional living expense scholarship of 2 million KRW will be provided in the second semester.
Bae Seong-geun, Scholarship Director of the Korea Student Aid Foundation, said, “We are grateful to the Umi Hope Foundation for supporting college students from industrial accident-affected families and those in need of housing support.” He added, “The Korea Student Aid Foundation will do its best to help scholarship recipients explore their career paths and visions and achieve stable social entry through talent development programs. We hope the scholarship recipients will carry on the donor’s intentions and become talents who practice sharing.”
Lee Chun-seok, Secretary General of the Umi Hope Foundation, said, “It is meaningful to support college students from industrial accident families and those needing housing support through the Blue Lighthouse donation scholarship project in collaboration with the Korea Student Aid Foundation.” He continued, “The Umi Hope Foundation will continue to strive to remove obstacles in front of youth’s hopes, lay the foundation for their dreams, and become a partner in realizing those dreams for a better world.”
A recipient of the Blue Lighthouse Umi Hope Foundation donation scholarship said, “I was covering living expenses through tutoring and part-time jobs, but being selected as a scholarship recipient gave me a precious opportunity to focus on my studies this semester.” The student added, “I am grateful to the Korea Student Aid Foundation and the Umi Hope Foundation for their support, and I will work harder in my studies to become someone who can share with neighbors in our society.”
Blue Lighthouse supports tuition and living expenses so that college students can grow into future talents according to the donor’s intentions. The Korea Student Aid Foundation, as a special donation organization (formerly a statutory donation organization), has been operating scholarship projects, talent development programs, and dormitory projects through donations since 2011.
