Outrage has erupted after it was revealed that a car, not a person, was parked in a pedestrian shade shelter set up to allow people to wait at a crosswalk signal while avoiding the hot sunlight.

On the 12th, a post titled "There are people like this in my neighborhood too" was uploaded to an online community. The author, Mr. A, said, "I reported it after seeing the car parked on the sidewalk while waiting for the signal," and shared a photo from the scene.

The photo shared by Mr. A shows a black car parked under a shade shelter installed on the sidewalk in front of a crosswalk, where people can escape the heat. It is presumed that the car was parked there to find shade and prevent the interior from getting hot.

Netizens who saw the story responded with comments such as, "This person only thinks about themselves," "Did they think the shade shelter on the sidewalk was the prime spot?" "People like that should be reported so money comes out of their wallet," "I wonder what kind of mindset people like that live with," "Did they think they wouldn't get reported in this day and age?" and "Maybe they left their common sense at the driver's license test center."

This is not the first time a vehicle has been parked under a pedestrian shade shelter. In June last year, an SUV was parked under a shade shelter installed on the sidewalk at the intersection in front of Yeonan Port Square in Incheon, pushing citizens who needed to use the shelter outside of it, which sparked public outrage. Similar nuisance parking incidents were also repeatedly found in Cheongju, Naju in Jeollanam-do, and Bucheon in Gyeonggi-do.

Meanwhile, since last year, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission have included sidewalks in the 'Illegal Parking Resident Reporting System' starting July 1 of the same year, allowing residents to report illegal parking. When citizens report such situations, fines are immediately imposed without on-site inspection by officials. Additionally, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has designated the '5 Absolutely No Parking Zones' (▲within 5 meters of a fire hydrant ▲within 5 meters of an intersection corner ▲within 10 meters of a bus stop ▲crosswalks ▲children protection zones in front of elementary school gates) and announced that vehicle owners who park in these areas will be fined between 40,000 and 120,000 KRW.
