More than half handled by CJ Daehan Tongun as before
Remaining volume processed by Hanjin and others
CJ Logistics will once again handle the Korean logistics for the Chinese e-commerce platform AliExpress for the next year.
According to industry sources on the 13th, AliExpress recently signed a logistics contract through its logistics subsidiary Cainiao, selecting CJ Logistics, Hanjin, Lotte Global Logistics, and Korea Post Parcel as domestic last-mile (parcel delivery) subcontractors.
The proportion of volume divided among the existing companies has not been disclosed, but CJ Logistics is still expected to handle more than half as before. The existing contract method, where the remainder is shared by Hanjin, Lotte Global Logistics, and Korea Post Parcel, will also be maintained.
AliExpress entered the Korean market last year and signed an exclusive contract with CJ Logistics, the number one company in the parcel delivery industry. However, starting this year, they decided to conduct a competitive bidding process in accordance with internal company regulations. There were rumors of a breakup between CJ Logistics and AliExpress at one point, but these were unfounded as CJ Logistics signed the contract again.
Analysis suggested that the possibility of a breakup was never high. Apart from CJ Logistics, there was no logistics company capable of handling AliExpress's volume. Until now, CJ Logistics handled 80% of AliExpress's domestic parcel deliveries, with the remainder managed by companies like Hanjin.
An AliExpress representative stated, "Establishing a strategic cooperative relationship with CJ Logistics is essential to improving AliExpress's service quality and consumer satisfaction. We will strive to create a mutually beneficial environment and to become a trusted platform."
