"Women Living Alone, Feel Safe"... Gangbuk-gu Supports '4 Types of Safety Packages'

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that it will carry out the '2024 Gangbuk-gu Safety Package Support Project' targeting vulnerable groups in residential safety, such as single women households.

The Safety Package Support Project aims to prevent and respond to the increasing residential intrusion crimes targeting single-person households by providing security and self-defense items to single women households and others. Gangbuk-gu has been independently implementing this project using the district budget since last year.

The four types of safety packages consist of a 'location-transmitting personal alarm, delivery invoice eraser, window lock device, and smart door opening sensor.' These were configured based on the satisfaction survey results from last year's participants and considering the diverse residential environments and age groups of single-person households. This year, a total of 150 households will receive the items free of charge.

The location-transmitting personal alarm is a smart ring type attached to the back of a mobile phone. In an emergency, pressing the button in the center of the alarm sounds a siren and sends location information and a recorded audio file via text message to up to five pre-registered contacts.

The delivery invoice eraser allows easy deletion of personal information such as address, name, and phone number printed on delivery invoices. The window lock device fixes the window frame so it cannot be opened from the outside, preventing unauthorized intrusion.

The smart door opening sensor is installed on the front door and other entrances. It detects door opening or closing when going out, sounds a siren, and sends real-time alerts to the mobile phone.

The support targets include single women households residing in Gangbuk-gu, households composed only of women, households consisting of women and children only, male single-person households who have experienced crimes such as residential intrusion or dating violence, and other households recognized as needing support. However, those who participated last year are not eligible.

The application period is from this month until supplies run out. Residents wishing to apply can submit the application form, consent form for collection, use, and provision of personal information, and one copy of the resident registration certificate (issued within the last month) via email or visit the Gangbuk-gu Women and Family Division in person. The application form can be downloaded from the Gangbuk-gu website (Our District Introduction > Notice Board > News).

Once the application is completed, the items will be delivered by courier within 1-2 weeks, and after receiving the items, applicants can receive guidance on installation and usage by phone.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, "I hope the safety equipment will provide practical help to single-person households in Gangbuk-gu who need it," and added, "We will continue to promote various safety projects so that vulnerable groups in residential safety can live with peace of mind."
