A man who was initially delighted thinking he had won second prize in the pension lottery was later shocked to discover that he had actually won both first and second prizes simultaneously.
The lottery operator Donghaeng Lottery published an interview with the first prize winner of the 207th round of the Pension Lottery 720+ on its website on the 9th. The winner, Mr. A, said, "I buy lottery tickets for fun and anticipation," adding, "One day, I saw an elderly person purchasing a pension lottery ticket at a lottery store and became curious about the product, so I bought a few tickets."
He said, "I remembered the pension lottery ticket I bought on Saturday and checked the results, and to my surprise, I had won second prize," adding, "I had a low understanding of the pension lottery and thought I had only won second prize." Later, when Mr. A revisited the lottery store where he bought the tickets, he said, "There was a message at the entrance congratulating pension lottery winners, and through the store owner, I also learned how to claim the prize money."
After returning home, Mr. A discovered more tickets on the back while receiving prize claim instructions from the customer center. He said, "I realized belatedly that I had purchased a set," and "That’s how I found out late that I had won both first and second prizes simultaneously."
He added, "I was recently thinking about quitting my business, but the fourth pension lottery ticket I bought brought me great luck, so I feel very happy."
The pension lottery tickets Mr. A won consist of one first prize ticket and four second prize tickets, totaling five tickets. The first prize pays 7 million KRW monthly for 20 years, and the second prize pays 1 million KRW monthly for 10 years in the form of an annuity. Having won both first and second prizes simultaneously, Mr. A will receive 11 million KRW monthly for the next 10 years, followed by 7 million KRW monthly for the subsequent 10 years. The total prize money he will receive over 20 years amounts to 2.16 billion KRW.
Mr. A purchased the tickets at a lottery store in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. Regarding a memorable recent dream, he added, "After buying the lottery tickets, I dreamed that my spouse was pregnant." As for his plans for the prize money, he stated, "I plan to repay my loans."
The Pension Lottery 720+ requires matching a total of seven digits, including a series number and six numbers. Tickets are sold in sets of five, and if all series are purchased with the same number and win, the winner receives one first prize ticket and four second prize tickets.
