TSMC's April Sales Reach 10 Trillion Won Driven by AI Demand, Up 60% YoY

Strong Performance Despite Early Last Month's Taiwan Earthquake Damage

Last month, the revenue of Taiwan's TSMC, the world's largest foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing) company, surged thanks to demand for artificial intelligence (AI).

On the 10th (local time), foreign media including AFP and Bloomberg reported that TSMC's revenue last month (consolidated basis) was approximately 236.02 billion New Taiwan dollars (9.9553 trillion Korean won), a 59.6% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth rate was higher than the 34.3% recorded in March.

This strong performance is closely related to the AI boom following the success of OpenAI's ChatGPT. Advanced semiconductors are required to train and operate AI, and TSMC accounts for more than half of the world's semiconductor production. TSMC manufactures Nvidia's cutting-edge AI semiconductors on a contract basis and is considered Apple's partner for producing its own AI chips.

Meanwhile, although some production facilities were damaged by a strong earthquake in Taiwan earlier last month, the company stated that the impact was minimal and maintained its annual performance forecast for this year announced in January.
