Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) visited the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice and commemorate the victims on the 44th anniversary of the May 18 Democratic Movement.
According to Hwasun-gun on the 9th, the memorial service was held in the morning with the participation of May 18 Democratic Merit recipients, the chairman of the county council, county council members, and county office officials.
Before the memorial, Gu Bok-gyu, Governor of Hwasun-gun, wrote in the guestbook, "Dear spirits! I was present at the scene on May 18, 1980. I will uphold your will and lead the administration of Hwasun well. Youth is the future. I will do my best for a Korea where young people live well."
Starting with flower offerings and incense burning, followed by a moment of silence to honor the souls of the May spirits, they visited the graves of Hwasun natives, lawyer Hong Nam-soon, martyr Park Hyun-sook, and the missing person Mr. Choi Young-chan, to pay tribute to their noble sacrifice and spirit.
