Jo Jeonghun Meets Hwang Woo-yeo, Emergency Committee Chairs
Plans for Post-Election Defeat Area Meetings Starting Next Week
On the 10th, Cho Jeong-hoon, chairman of the People Power Party's General Election White Paper Task Force (TF), announced that the general election white paper would be released around mid-June, before the party convention to elect the next party leader.
After meeting with Emergency Response Committee Chairman Hwang Woo-yeo at the central party office in Yeouido, Seoul, Cho told reporters, "We are trying to make it public to journalists and the public around mid-June."
The plan of Chairman Cho is to release the general election white paper, which contains the causes of the election defeat and reform plans, before the party convention so that party leader candidates and others can engage in a free-for-all style debate.
Regarding the meeting with Chairman Hwang, Cho said, "(Chairman Hwang) asked us to create a way for the People Power Party to become a winning party again in the upcoming elections," adding, "He requested that we compare the Democratic Party's general election strategies and tactics with ours from a multi-level perspective. He also asked us to fully gather opinions from the defeated candidates and party members to analyze the causes of the election defeat and come up with ideas."
Regarding the inclusion of questions such as "Was the Han Dong-hoon one-top system effective?" in the general election white paper survey, amid criticisms that it tries to place responsibility on former Emergency Committee Chairman Han Dong-hoon, Cho said, "(Chairman Hwang) asked us to approach this with the mindset of creating a textbook to be used in the next election, as if our lives depended on it," and added, "He requested that, rather than focusing on past-oriented blame by pointing fingers at specific individuals during the discussion of election responsibility, we should take a future-oriented approach to create a way for the People Power Party to become a winning party again in the upcoming elections."
When asked if there are plans to meet with former Chairman Han and former Nomination Committee Chairman Jeong Young-hwan, Cho said, "I understand that schedules are being coordinated with Chairman Jeong and things are somewhat settled," and added, "We have also started coordinating with the Presidential Office, but we think it would be good to meet after organizing the survey opinions."
The General Election White Paper TF plans to hold regional meetings starting next week in areas where the party was defeated in the general election, such as Seoul, Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, and Honam, to listen to public opinion.
