Relocation of Headquarters to Songdo Since March
BigTech, a small and medium-sized defense company, has achieved cumulative sales of 1 trillion won. It took 34 years since its founding.
According to BigTech on the 10th, the company started as BigTech Power System in July 1990. At that time, Chairman Park Seung-woon, who was working as a team leader at the technical research center of Geumseong Electric (now LIG Nex1), founded the company to produce power supply devices for military radios. The company changed its name to the current BigTech in 1996.
BigTech's early development model was a power supply device for radios (PRC-999K). Based on this, they developed electronic wave detection equipment used in azimuth system direction-finding devices (ES), radar, missiles, and more. Later, they developed electronic warfare ES equipment for ships, starting with direction-finding devices for naval vessels, and expanded to aviation, small ships, and submarines. This marked the company’s transition into a specialized electronic warfare ES company.
In particular, the submarine electronic warfare ES equipment was developed over four years. It is a technology possessed by only a few countries worldwide, and last year it was designated as defense materials by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.
Recently, BigTech has also entered the performance improvement business for Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) devices, which are installed on tanks and armored vehicles and automatically identify friend and foe through wireless communication. Last year, the company secured an order for the thermal imaging unit of the K2 tank FCS for export to Poland and is currently in mass production.
Im Man-gyu, CEO of BigTech, said, “We plan to achieve sales of 200 billion won by 2030 through localization of defense parts and new technologies.”
Meanwhile, BigTech was selected as the business operator for the expanded industrial technology complex in Songdo, Incheon, in July 2020. In September of the following year, they broke ground on a new headquarters in Songdo and relocated their technology research center and headquarters.
