The government has established a policy consultation channel with five cities and provinces concentrated in the shipbuilding industry to secure a super-gap in the shipbuilding sector.
On the 10th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the '1st Central-Local Policy Consultation Meeting on the Shipbuilding Industry' at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul, with the participation of Busan City, Ulsan City, Jeonbuk Province, Jeonnam Province, Gyeongnam Province, and the Shipbuilding and Offshore Plant Association. The ministry plans to regularize this newly established consultation meeting on a quarterly basis.
At the meeting, local governments conveyed field difficulties and proposed national budget support for new projects next year, manpower supply challenges, and refund guarantees (RG·Refund Guarantee) for advance payments of medium-sized shipbuilders.
In response, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated that it will coordinate with related ministries such as the Financial Services Commission and the Ministry of Justice to prepare practical improvement measures that can be felt on the ground.
Along with this, the ministry introduced the proactive administration case of Ulsan City, which dispatched a Grade 4 public official to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and urged, "Other local governments should benchmark this by designating dedicated support officials for each shipbuilding company and establishing a hotline between the responsible departments of the ministry," adding, "Please respond more promptly when companies face difficulties."
