Boryeong City in Chungnam announced that it will establish a large-scale sea cucumber production facility.
The city plans to invest 14.4 billion KRW over three years to create an eco-friendly habitat and spawning grounds at the existing sea cucumber farms.
Boryeong sea cucumbers are mainly exported to China and play a significant role in fishermen's income.
The city also aims to encourage urban youth to engage in fishing activities through large-scale sea cucumber production.
Mayor Kim Dong-il stated, "This project will be an important opportunity to empower fishermen," adding, "We will ensure that fishermen can earn stable income without being affected by external factors."
