Samgyetang is being exported to Europe for the first time. The government plans to expand exports to European Union (EU) member countries, starting with Germany.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency held a ceremony on the 9th at Busan Port Coastal Passenger Terminal to commemorate the first export of Korean Samgyetang to the EU, together with exporting companies.

The first shipment of 8.4 tons heading to the EU through Busan Port will be entirely exported to Germany. The government expects that as exports gradually expand to the 27 EU member countries, the export value of chicken products including Samgyetang will more than double. Additionally, various foods made from chicken such as frozen chicken, dumplings, and fried rice are preparing to enter the EU market, which is expected to further increase K-Food export revenue.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs plans to support more consumers experiencing Korean heat-processed chicken products by holding diverse events such as local EU food exhibitions, K-Food fairs, and consumer experience events.
Song Miryung, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, “The export of Samgyetang to the EU is the result of public-private cooperation that resolved stringent overseas regulations through close communication among livestock farmers, the food industry, and the government. Going forward, we will strengthen inter-ministerial cooperation and industry communication to ensure that not only Samgyetang but various K-Foods are exported to more countries. We will also make greater efforts to revitalize the export economy by discovering promising export items tailored to major trading partners.”
