Polaris Office is set to unveil the world's first on-device office artificial intelligence (AI) software. The first platform to feature this will likely be Apple's Mac operating system (OS).
On the 9th, Polaris Office announced the launch of ‘On-Device Office AI for Mac,’ which can be used without an internet connection. The company collaborated with AI specialist Upstage and integrated the large language model (LLM) ‘Solar’ into the Polaris Office software.
With this product release, AI-powered office software can now be used even on airplanes or outdoors where internet connectivity is unavailable. This fundamentally blocks the possibility of document and personal information leaks, enhancing security competitiveness.
A Polaris Office representative stated, “As AI is applied in everyday life, the importance of on-device services that can be used regardless of location is increasing. Since it can be installed and used in closed network environments, we plan to diversify our customers into B2B (business-to-business) and B2G (business-to-government) sectors and secure market leadership.”
They added, “With technological advancements such as AI chipsets, the functionality of on-device AI is expected to improve. We will continue to develop AI features, including office AI for Windows, to maximize profitability.”
Earlier, in March, Polaris Office joined the ‘Korea Artificial Intelligence Computer Alliance (K-APA)’ alongside the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, Intel, and 16 promising AI companies to target the global on-device market, marking its entry into government-wide AI projects.
Meanwhile, Apple launched its latest tablet PCs, the new iPad Pro and iPad Air, on the 7th (local time). Tim Millet, Apple’s Vice President of Platform Architecture, explained, “We equipped the powerful next-generation chip ‘M4’ for AI. The Neural Engine and M4 are more powerful than any AI PC’s neural processing unit (NPU) today.”
The company added, “Apple’s new product launch is expected to act as a catalyst for the spread of on-device AI.”
