Cheonan-si Receives Presidential Citation for Region-Specific Family Policy

Community Childcare Sharing Centers, Support for Vulnerable Families, Support for Multicultural Families, etc.

Cheonan City in Chungnam announced on the 9th that it received the Presidential Citation at the '2024 Family Month Commemoration Event' hosted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family for its specialized family policies reflecting regional characteristics.

The city has actively promoted specialized family policies reflecting regional characteristics, such as community childcare sharing centers involving diverse families, support for vulnerable families, and support for multicultural families.

Looking at major projects, the 'Sign Language Community Childcare Sharing Center,' opened in July 2022, provides a care space and supports childcare and play programs for parents and children from Deaf families.

Also, the family program 'Dodam Nuri' for parents feeling burdened by childcare received great response last year, with 2,826 participants.

Since last year, the city has implemented the 'Single-Parent Family Water and Sewage Fee Reduction Support Project,' and this year, various efforts to support vulnerable families, such as expanded support for school trip expenses, are being promoted.

The divorce crisis support project contributes to improving family relationships through psychological support for children experiencing divorce as well as parent education.

Along with this, family projects embracing diverse families, such as training child abuse prevention activists by nationality for marriage immigrants and the Multicultural Family Happy Wedding Day, have also received high evaluations.

Mayor Park Sang-don said, “This award is an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of Cheonan City's family policies in an era where the meaning of family is weakening,” and added, “We will actively promote diverse and differentiated family policies that meet the expectations of our citizens.”
