Contributing to Carbon Neutrality for Saving the Earth and Increasing Income for Mountain Owners and
Beekeeping Farmers
Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 9th that it has completed planting 300,000 trees over 106 hectares, including economic tree planting, by the end of April after starting the spring planting project in March to achieve carbon neutrality goals and establish a foundation for sustainable forest management.
According to the county, a budget of 700 million KRW has been invested to promote five projects: economic tree planting, large tree public interest planting, forest disaster prevention planting, fire-resistant forest belt creation, and region-specific planting.
Through this project, it is expected to achieve triple benefits: increasing forest owners' income through timber production, saving the planet with carbon neutrality by 2050, and boosting income for beekeeping farms through melliferous tree planting.
The county plans to continuously implement post-management for healthy forest plantations by carrying out grass cutting and vine removal projects in the planting areas starting in June to improve the survival rate of planted trees.
A county official stated, “We are striving to increase sustainable carbon sinks through the planting project to respond to climate change and realize continuous sustainable forest management,” adding, “We will actively promote forest management projects such as wildfire prevention and forest tending to ensure the creation of many healthy forests.”
