Gahyeon Yang: "Minister, My Apple Tree"
Daughter of 'Ddabom Farm' in Mungyeong, Ga-hyun Lee, is smiling brightly after receiving a Children's Day gift from Song Mi-ryeong, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, on the 3rd.
Song Miryeong, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, recently sent Children's Day gifts to an apple farm in Mungyeong. This was due to a connection with the farm owner's child whom she met during a visit last month to inspect the apple growth management situation.
An official from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs explained on the 9th, "Minister Song personally selected stationery and snacks, packaged them with a handwritten letter, and on the 3rd, the minister's secretary visited the Mungyeong Ddabom Farm to deliver the minister's gift to Lee Gahyeon, a child there. This was to express interest and affection for the future generation, specifically the children of farm owners who have returned to farming, in celebration of Children's Day."
Last month, Minister Song visited apple farms in the Mungyeong area of Gyeongbuk to inspect the growth management status. This was because production had significantly decreased due to poor pollination caused by low temperatures during the flowering period last year. On that day, Minister Song checked whether pollen was being supplied smoothly and also performed artificial pollination herself.
At the event, Lee, a 4th-grade elementary school student and child of the Ddabom farm owner, presented Minister Song with a bouquet of flowers as a welcome gesture. Minister Song promised Lee, "I will come to pick apples myself later," and first delivered Children's Day gifts including a handwritten letter expressing hopes that Lee would grow up to be a wonderful child like an apple tree.
Minister Song Miryeong of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (second from the left) is taking a commemorative photo with representatives Lee Hyungwoo and Lee Jooyeon, and Ms. Lee Gahyun at Ddabom Farm, which she visited on the 21st of last month.
After Minister Song's visit, Lee made a nameplate on her desk that read "Sejelgwi (the cutest in the world) Minister Lee Gahyeon." She also hung a nameplate on the apple tree that Minister Song had artificially pollinated, inscribed with "Minister Song Miryeong, my Gamhong apple tree." Lee plans to record the growth of the apple tree each season and harvest apples in the fall to gift to Minister Song.
Lee Hyungwoo, representative of Ddabom Farm, said, "My child was very happy that Minister Song did not forget Gahyeon and prepared Children's Day gifts, and also framed the commemorative photo taken together." He added, "We will work even harder to cultivate Minister Song's Gamhong apple tree well and send delicious apples as a token of gratitude."
